Mo Sang Kor Bah Kut Teh @ Leboh Bangau, Taman Berkeley Klang

From the first sip of Mo Sang Kor's BKT in Hutong Food Court, Jenn & I had fallen in love with the thick herbal flavour. Although they can really try to use a bigger bowl because the amount of soup given was rather puny! We'd been told that this is the way that they have been doing business spanning 3 generations. Since the price to eat BKT in Hutong Foodcourt was RM16++ for a bowl of rice + BKT (meat of your choice) and a glass of iced tea, which we thought were rather exorbitant, we decided to go to their Klang outlet instead.

Utilising the power of Google (well, who doesn't use Google nowadays?), I searched for the nearest Mo Sang Kor outlet in Klang. Their Pandamaran outlet popped out first.. "too far" we thought! Then Berkeley Park's name appeared and the whole world seemed brighter again :) both of us agreed that the best time to enjoy BKT was early morning... I mean, VERY EARLY.. when everyone was still in dreamland. Imagined our excitement when we spotted this sign as we drove by.

The excitement was shortlived when we were greeted by this sight! Unbelieveable!!! I looked at my watch and it showed 8am. I couldn't believe that I actually had to wait for table at this hour! The rather stuffy interior didn't help much either as Sher Ryn could get grumpy anytime. Lady Luck must be with me this time as I spotted someone leaving after 5 min!

We quickly placed out order before I spotted a familiar face! This guy was the one that we saw in Hutong Foodcourt. I smiled and had a quick chat with him. He told me that he helped out at this place from 7am onwards and would then rush to downtown KL (Hutong Lot 10) to start preparing for business at 11am (he had to get there at 10am). His wife would then continue his work.

He seemed to know what I was doing and promptly asked me to feel free to continue taking pictures, starting with this huge pot filled with various parts of the pork. Just at the sight of it made me hungrier than ever!

Mo Sang Kor's version of BKT in a pack ready to be made right at the comfort of your home. Anyone?? I did.. and it tasted nothing like I had here so just forget it OK?

I brought along my own vintage Puer - perfect to wash down all the oil from consuming BKT! They do have their own tea should you don't have any.

Old-school style of boiling water!

Our orders arrived in less than 10min which was rather fast considering the outlet was in its maximum capacity! My stomach drummed at the sight of the porky-licious BKT

Paikut (ribs) @ RM7.50,

Nuan kut (soft bones) @ RM7.50,

and pork tendon (from its knuckles) - only available on weekends and in limited numbers so if you want to savour this part please be early!

considering amount of works required to extract the tendon from the knuckles and therefore the price is higher compared to the former two.. I think it's about RM9 for this bowl alone. Take a closer look at the part which is full of collagen goodness :)

A new pot was brought out shortly after.. replacing the previous pot which was already empty (I think in less than 20min).

Nothing was spared and by the end of the meal, we had to drink a lot of tea to wash down the oil! BURP!!!

Leo's verdict - what I like about each and every bowl of the BKT was that it contained a piece of mushroom. Being a sucker for mushroom, I couldn't help but rave about this fact! LOL! I don't know about their Pandamaran outlet but be prepared to spend considerable time to find a table. After all, the outlet is located in an intermediate shoplot unit and therefore, tables are limited! Apparently they have opened another outlet in Bandar Puteri Puchong. Maybe that's where I'll go if I crave for Mo Sang Kor's BKT. But then Pao Xiang is conveniently located in 1Utama and offers similar version of BKT... and although I prefer Mo Sang Kor's BKt, I'd settle for Pao Xiang most of the time due to the proximity to my house in BU!!! And for those who sweat easily, be prepared as I was drenched by the time I finished the meal.

P.S: Non-halal (what? you expect BKT to be halal?)

Peng Heong Hakka Paikut @ Jalan Gudang Nanas 3, Klang

Back to Peng Heong Hakka once again and this time with Jenn & Sher Ryn along. The image of the delectable image of the signature hakka paikut kept running inside my head after my first time going there. So I brought Jenn & my little princess along this time... not for lunch but breakfast!!! I admit that the meal was quite heavy for breakfast but since people had equally heavy BKT for breakfast, so why not??? Plus morning is the only time suitable to bring Sher Ryn there, as the weather was still cool. Traffic is a breeze and parking spots are plenty...

It was piece of cake to find a table in the morning too! Most people were still in the dreamland at this moment :P

This time I noticed that they also served various baos and siew mai. But these stuffs are easily available in PJ or KL area so why waste your time driving here for these?

I ordered the usual barley drink... served in a bottle.

Hakka meatball at RM1 each is a must! Minced pork meat stuffed with spices before it is deep fried, each and every bite was a delight!

Asam fish @ RM6 (big) - with only RM1 difference between the big and small, why not opt for the former? Its sourish & slightly spicy gravy was good enough to go with rice.

Claypot chicken in peanut sauce - the sauce was similar to those satay sauce. However this dish was quite ordinary to be honest. The sauce was quite watery and not oomphhh enough. Definitely can skip this unless you want variety.

Signature Peng Heong paikut.. when one mention paikut, he/she might think that the dish was bony. Actually these are super soft pork fillet (something like pork chop.. being chopped into little pieces). I simply love the sweet taste of the tender pork meat. Jenn was hooked immediately after the first bite! So good that she ta pao-ed some for her sister in Cheras.

Leo's verdict - They start business as early as 7am until 5pm. With reasonable price, fast service and delicious food... it's time to plan a trip to Klang for the legendary hakka paikut. if you are bored with the usual BKT everytime you go to klang, then this is what you should have! Traffic can be a nightmare if you come during lunch time so plan ahead ok? I'm already thinking of the third visit... this time might ask some bloggers along. And I have a few names in my mind already.

Love at First Bite

I could still remember our first time...

It was my first time introduced to you under the very old shack...

You looked so beautiful and tender...

I never thought that I could fall in love so easily...

a Girl??? Lol... No! It was this legendary Hakka Paikut from Klang. I had forgotten about this place completely, as I'd only come here once about 7 years ago. But then I have not forgotten how great the paikut tasted... and then Jenn bought a food guide! Wah lah... I knew that I'd gotta lay my hands on this delectable dish once again! Coming here or planning to come here isn't easy, as Klang is rather far from PJ and most importantly the traffic in Klang can be chaotic (especially they are upgrading the roads in the city centre) which has been going on for a few years already.

My opportunity came when I had to meet a potential client in Klang. Together with Sean (not eatdrinkKL's Sean but my ex-college mate), I just key-in the street name and then followed the instruction shown by my trusty buddy, Garmin! Somehow I overshot (is this even the correct way to describe?) the lorong and ended up circling the area one more time. Luckily the traffic was good that day.

It was a story from rags to riches! The owner was doing so well that he bought up a corner shoplot and shifted his business here (his old shack was only nearby but demolished for future development). It was lunch time but the restaurant had not packed to the brim.

The menu showed the owner and his wife together with their famous creation... hakka paikut of course!

We settled with several dishes which were enough for two... starting with Hakka meatball at RM1 each! I had not tried this before but the meatball was great! The meat was stuffed with spices and deep fried to perfection. Crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside!

HIGHLIGHT of the day!! And the moment that I'd been waiting for! Pai Kut Wong @ RM8! The portion was enough for 2 person... if you are feeling greedy, there's always RM10 and RM20 version of this dish! The meat was marinated well... very tender and sweet! Definitely a masterpiece!

Water Spinach @ RM3 - tell me! Can you find a RM3 dish anywhere in Klang Valley anymore??? The amount given was generous too!

Asam fish @ RM6 - they also served smaller asam fish for RM5. But for extra RM1, they gave you a bigger fish... why not? Not the best asam fish in town but good enough. The gravy was sour and slightly spicy...

Barley in a bottle - something cool for the hot weather outside!

Leo's verdict - Both the owners were very friendly! Service was quite fast and price-wise, I'd say that it was worth every penny paid! The bill came at RM21.50 for the 4 dishes, 2 rice and a bottle of barley. For an area which is so famous for bah kut teh and seafood, one would not expect to find a restaurant serving Hakka dishes in Klang. Further more, this is a predominantly Hokkien area! Words can't describe on how good the paikut wong is... you just have to come here at least once to try it. Probably the best paikut wong in Klang Valley, as I have yet to find a better one to compare. Apart from that, I heard that their claypot mutton curry is good too! Also their vinegar pig feet and other Hakka dishes.

Drive, take bus, train or whatever mode of transport... get your a@@ here!
