MM Cafe @ Happy Mansion, Section 17 PJ

I heard about this place for the first time after reading Cumi&Ciki's blog... I know that I can rely on them to get to know more places to eat :) after all, I have put a link to their webpage in which I clicked almost everyday to see if they've been to any new places lately. This was actually my second time coming to Happy Mansion area, the first being to 6To10 Grill & Nasi Lemak which is located nearby.

Tuck in the corner of Happy Mansion, this place is quite secluded and you will easily miss it if you don't look carefully.

The interior is kept simple and nice, and they even have a VIP room for private function.

Or you can just relax on the sofa, while sipping drinks and snacks if you plan to hangout with friends here.

This place is also children-friendly, as they provide Ikea's high chair for those who bring along their kids.

The menu was given once we were seated. The recommended foods are highlighted with a Star.

Since Jenn was not feeling that hungry, she asked for their Caesar Salad @ RM8.90. Jenn said that the salad doesn't worth the price stated, as it was plain with only lettuce, egg, bread crumbs. However, she really loved the cheese bits that provided extra flavour to the salad.

As for me, I wanted to try their Kam Heong Chicken Fried Rice @ RM8.90. I'm not a fussy eater and since the fried rice was not very oily with a strong aroma of kam heong (which I like), I gave this dish a thumb up!

Leo's verdict - the waiter was very attentive (maybe there were not many customers at that time) and made effort to have a friendly conversation with me after the meal & to check on how we felt at the end of the meal. I also love the simple interior of the place and the service was fast too. Parkings are ample around this area, maybe because it's weekends.

Roasted Pork @ Restoran Hong Seng, Section 17 PJ

Meng Kee is the place to go if you are looking for char siew... but in terms of siew yoke (roasted pork), Hong Seng is one of the best places to go. Located next to Toto 4D and on the same row as Caring Pharmacy, I had read several good reviews from fellow bloggers before deciding to come here.

The stall is located at the main entrance of the coffeeshop... if you see the "nasi ayam" sign, you have found the place.

It was still early (not even lunch time yet) and therefore, it was relatively easy to find a table.

You would notice a few big pieces of siew yoke (roasted pork) hanging at the stall.

The boss was chopping and preparing orders... diligently!

I had the chicken rice + roasted pork... less than RM5.00 and it was proven that the reviews were accurate. The meat was tender and the skin was very crispy... normally I would separate the fat from the lean meat and skin, but this time I just wallop the whole stuff inside my mouth. The chicken was OK too...

Char siew was not as good... Jenn had the siew yoke + char siew and commented that the char siew was quite artificial and hard to chew. She also had a bowl of sour and spicy vegetable, prepared with the leftover meat from yesterday... she loved the dish! Not my cup of tea...

Leo's verdict - Thumbs up for the siew yoke! Simply crispy and delectable. However, the char siew is not up to the standard. The coffeeshop was full house by the time we left the coffeeshop around 12++pm.

6 To 10 Grill & Nasi Lemak @ Happy Mansion, Section 17 PJ

This place had been reviewed by several bloggers whom I always follow... and most of them mentioned about a lot of cafes mushrooming in this area, particularly around Happy Mansion area at Jalan 17/3. Jenn wanted to eat pork chop and I'd read about this place offering western food + nasi lemak.

Having arrived at KL quite early on Friday, we'd decided to have early dinner. It was getting darker when both of us arrived... The dinner crowd had not come yet...

Their menu in yellow colour with the drawing of chef with food... quite interesting.

We were seated outside and quickly placed our order. Of course, Jenn went for their grilled pork chop with pineapple sauce @ RM14.90 - the meat was marinated and grilled before topped with pineapple sauce, and accompanied with french fries + coleslaw. Its meat was tender and the pineapple sauce added some sweetness in it.

I had the grilled fish with lemon butter @ RM12.50 - it was good to dip the fish with lemon butter sauce provided!

Leo's verdict - apart from western food, they also offer nasi lemak which I have not tried yet. But I noticed that a lot of customers ordered this Malay delicacy. Maybe I will try that next time. The price is quite reasonable for the quality of food offered here... definitely worth giving it a try! By the time I left, the whole place was packed with patrons.
An update, I read that the quality had dropped compared to last time. The portion has got smaller too... anyway, this was the first time that I came here.

Mel's Corner @ Section 17 PJ

My blog resumes after CNY... lol!!! No time to write anything... as I online during my work time. Anyway, it seems that everyone is pressured to think of Valentine's venue which is so darn near to CNY... below is unrelated post about Valentine's ok??

Sometimes I would bring Jenn to the morning market in this area. Before that, we would look for a place for breakfast nearby. Coincidently, I parked my car beside this restaurant and therefore, decided to give it a try. I remembered reading masak-masak's blog about the curry mee and iced cham here... and her review was good. From the outside, Mel's Corner looks like just another typical hawker stall's type of restaurant.

There are quite a lot of food selection here - curry mee, wantan mee, economy rice, fried koay teow, etc...

The Wantan mee and curry mee stalls are located almost at the end of the restaurant... next to each other

I had the wantan mee... the char siew was good & tender, but of course... nothing compared to meng kee. The mee was nicely done... not too hard nor soft. The chilly completed the whole dish.

Curry mee - the broth was slightly sour but tasted good. Hainanese style chicken and taufu pok were included...

Iced cham - the cham had a strong taste... and you can still see the foam on top even after you finish your meal. I love it!

Leo's verdict - The prices are reasonable, given that this area is predominantly students. It's not too hot and has quite a big space.
